I’m going to give it a solid 6 for effort.
I am going to start by saying I’ve never been to Basel, art week or any week. One of these days, I’ll try to remedy that, but right now, not so much.
Scottsdale is one of those awkward places, at least to me – it wants to do and be SO much, but it can’t ever really get it’s act together to jump up to that next level. Which is probably Orange County, at least in the minds of all the striving Scottsdalians who desire to move up that social ladder. I’m in Phoenix, there’s a huge distinction. Always has been.
Anyway, there was some good art there – we showed up early on the first public day, and a lot of people were nursing their hangovers from the opening the night before so it was pretty quiet. Lots of galleries, lots of different styles of display, merchandising, and selling. I hope it continues.
Not that many pics for the amount of art that was in the Westworld hall they were using – definitely WAY more space between the booths than a trade show.
