# Ruth Bancroft Garden – Walnut Creek – April 2025

**It’s pretty shocking (in hindsight) just how many people in the Bay area don’t know about the Ruth Bancroft Garden in Walnut Creek.**

I don’t recall ever hearing about it when I lived in the East Bay, and a couple of years after I left I bought the book – [The Bold Dry Garden](https://www.ruthbancroftgarden.org/product/the-bold-dry-garden/) – that’s written about it, and still never put two and two together in any meaningful fashion.

You can read all about the place by [clicking here](https://www.ruthbancroftgarden.org/history/); if you have ever wondered why it’s called Walnut Creek, this will answer that burning question for you also.
