## Ruins, Relics & Rituals — Fiber Arts Center AZ

First Friday in Phoenix, and I ended up at the Olney Gallery at Trinity Cathedral for the opening reception of Ruins, Relics & Rituals, the latest show from Fiber Arts Center AZ — a group I’m proud to be a member of. There was a woodwind ensemble playing in the courtyard when I arrived, golden hour light on the cathedral stone, and honestly it was a pretty perfect way to start the evening.

The range of work inside stopped me more than once. We’re talking woven wall hangings with Pacific Northwest imagery, batik quilts layered with Southwest petroglyphs and Kokopelli figures, a sculptural tree branch hung with pom-poms and woven discs that cast the most incredible shadow on the wall behind it. Mixed media, fiber painting, a spiral quilt with a three-dimensional pottery vessel at its center that kind of messes with your head a little.

And then there was the piece with the tally marks — red and black thread stitched across a dictionary page mounted on gold leaf, row after row after row of counting. I stood in front of it for a while.

I also have a piece in the show — A Personal Reliquary — leopard print border, strips of fabric, feathers, pom-poms, and yes, an old BlackBerry. If you want to see what I have been up to in the studio lately, give me a follow over on Instagram at @lustygallantstudios.

Here’s the photo dump from the evening.
